This document contains the following information:
- how to get new registration keys (for registered users of previous
versions of Stomper)
- how to install the modem client for Windows 95
- how to install the modemserver for Windows 3.x/95
For general information on Stomper, see STOMPER.DOC, which is part of
STPE321.ZIP
The complete Stomper consists of:
STPE321.ZIP - Modem-/ISDN-server for DOS
Modem-server for Netware (NLM),
Modem-/ISDN-Client for DOS and Win 3.x
ST95E321.ZIP - (this archive): modemserver for Windows 3.x/95
modemclient for Windows 95
Both files and updates are available at different sites (see end of text).
All server - client - combinations can be mixed (e.g. modemserver for DOS
with Win95-client), as long as you don't mix versions.
I. New registration keys
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The registration keys have changed since version 3.20. If you already
have an older registration key, you can either obtain a new one free from
our BBS (+49-7156-939006) or you can contact your Stomper-dealer and
request a new key.
To get a converted key from our BBS, just log in using the
'username' "New Key" and then follow the instructions.
These converted keys do not include the new modemserver for Windows. See
ORDER.EXE for upgrade price information.
II. Installing the modemserver for Windows
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Note: it is still advisable to install STMGR.NLM on your Netware Fileserver
first, if you are running Netware.
This installation procedure works with both Windows 3.x and Windows 95.
We will include a setup-program in future versions.
1. Copy all files of the Stomper-archive in one directory.
2. Copy all files with the ending .DLL into the Windows-SYSTEM directory.
In case you already have a modemclient for Windows 95 running, you might
have to restart your PC in DOS-mode - otherwise the operating system
will not allow you to replace STNETIPX.DLL or STNETNB.DLL, whichever
you are using.
After having copied the DLL-files, you should delete them from the
original directory (you must at least make sure, that CTL3DV2.DLL is
NOT in the same directory as STWIN.EXE).
3. Now you can run STWIN.EXE. You will first be prompted to select the
network-protocol (IPX/SPX or NetBios/NetBEUI).
Later on you can change this setting by selecting "Options|Network..."
from the menu.
4. To start a modemserver, select "Modemserver|New".
From here you can access the online help, where you will find detailed
information.
III. Installing the modemclient for Windows 95
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The modemclient will run with any Stomper modemserver version 3.21 (DOS,
NLM or Windows).
We haven't included a setup program in this release yet, so the installation
has to be done manually. But you will see that the whole process is very
easy (don't get intimidated by the number of words in the following
description - it looks worse than it is).
1. In case you have some Stomper-components of the DOS/Win3.x-version running
on your Windows 95 PC, you must first uninstall them (remove NETFOS.COM
from the WINSTART.BAT file and re-replace STCOMM.DRV by the original
COMM.DRV in the SYSTEM.INI).
2. Make sure that the following files are in your Windows-SYSTEM directory:
STCLNT.VXD
STNETIPX.DLL
STNETNB.DLL
NWSPXIPX.DLL
3. Add the following line to the [386Enh]-section of your SYSTEM.INI
device=stclnt.vxd
4. Create a new section [Stomper] in the SYSTEM.INI.
- erstellen Sie einen neuen Abschnitt [Stomper] in der Datei SYSTEM.INI.
Ex:
[Stomper]
Network=stnetipx.dll
Port=COM3
Port=COM3 tells STCLNT.VXD to redirect COM3 to the modemserver. If
you have a multi-modemserver license, your modemserver will usually
have IDs. In that case, you must add a list of IDs of the modemservers
your port should try to attach to, like
Port=COM3,ab
if you want to use Modemserver 'a' or 'b', whichever is available.
This is equivalent to the /N-option used with Stomper for DOS.
You can define up to 4 "Port=" entries, if you want to redirect
multiple ports. You should choose Ports that are not physically
installed.
The entry "Network=..." tells STCLNT.VXD, which DLL to use for
network communications. Currently you can choose from STNETIPX.DLL for
the IPX/SPX-protocol and STNETNB.DLL for NetBios/NetBEUI.
Notes:
a)
SPX/IPX make sure that STNETIPX.DLL and NWIPXSPX.DLL both are
in your SYSTEM-directory
NetBEUI: If you get the message "invalid LAN-adapter number", you
will have to specify an adapter number (usually 0...7).
For example, if the correct LAN-adapter number is 1,
the line should read:
Network=STNETNB.DLL,1
If you don't specify a number, 0 is assumed.
Hint: because it is sometimes hard to determine the correct
number, it is helpful to run STWIN and let it make
the network entry (menu Options|Network).
STWIN shows a list of available adapter numbers, which
narrows the choice.
5. Restart Windows 95
At this point, your network port is already installed and ready for duty.
Unfortunately some applications analyse the Windows registry to enumerate
existing ports, so they will not "see" the new port.
The easiest way to make this entry, is to install a fake standard serial
port by choosing "add hardware" from your Windows 95 configuration manager.
The following software has been successfully tested with Stomper for Win95:
- Winfax Pro
- DigiTerm
- HyperTerminal
- TERMINAL.EXE (Win 3.x)
- Telix for Windows 1.10
- WinCIM 1.4 / 2.0
- NavCIS 1.62
- TulliCom 4.0
- Microsoft Network Access for Win95
- pcAnywhere for Windows
- T-Online BTX-decoder
